The
North Country Heirloom Collection is built from the hardwoods of
the Appalachian forests of Eastern North
America.
The wood is selected for its colour and density. We use many traditional methods of joinery such as mortise and tenon in the design.
We
assemble the drawers using a dovetail joint, which adds strength
and beauty that will endure.
The
legs are carved from a solid block of kiln-dried hardwood for stability
and rigidity.
The
legs are attached by a bolt system that allows the leg to be kept
solid and tight for decades. The table tops are fastened with metal
clips to form a floating top. This is important as solid wood is
always adjusting to the environment it is in, and large panels must
be able to expand and contract to avoid splitting.
The
drawers slide on a hardwood tee rail with a nylon slide. This assures
many years of trouble free service. The finishing process is extensive
and involves many steps to achieve the quality and appearance that
has become part of the legacy of our furniture.
Each
piece is hand-rubbed to produce a silky, smooth surface. The finish
is a conversion varnish that has been
tested
to be among the best in the industry. It is highly resistant to
most household chemicals, and requires no polish or was. It can
be easily cleaned with a soft damp cloth. While it is resistant
to UV effects, avoiding direct sunlight will preserve the colour
and sheen of the finish.
